Medical Resident Role Change

Medical Resident Role Change is an optional PDMP enabled PMP AWARxE feature that allows users in the Medical Residents field with a Prescription Authority Role a one-time opportunity to update their role following completion of their residency. 

• Role change is only allowed once for Medical Residents. Updates to a Medical Residents role should not be made until residency is complete and professional credentials are issued.
• Only the following roles are available for selection to Medical Residents during role change:
  • Dentist
  • Physician (MD, DO)
  • Podiatrist (DPM)
  • VA Prescriber
• The updated role may require users to provide additional information. Please be aware of what is required by the PDMP and be prepared to potentially provide a Personal DEA Number, National Provider Identifier number (NPI), Professional License details, etc.

The Medical Resident Role Change Experience

If enabled by the PDMP, Medical Residents with Prescriptive Authority will have a one-time option to update their role following completion of their residency. To perform a role change, Medical Residents must login to PMP AWARxE, access the system menu, select My Profle, and navigate to the Profile Info section.

To complete the role change: 

1. Select the applicable role from the Role dropdown menu.
2. Select Update Registration. 
3. If prompted, complete any additional required fields.
4. Click Submit.

Following submission of the role change and additional identifiers, the user's PMP AWARxE account will transition to a pending status while it undergoes PDMP review and approval. Following approval, users will receive an email notification, and restored access to the PDMP. 

For PDMPs with Registration Auto-Approval enabled, upon submission of the role change request and additional required identifiers, the system will attempt to auto-approve the role for immediate approval and access to the PDMP. If auto-approval fails, the user registration will be queued for manual review by the PDMP. 

Medical Resident Role Change Troubleshooting

• Role change is only allowed once for Medical Residents. If assistance is needed to make additional role or credential modifications, please contact the PDMP.
• Only the following roles are available for selection to Medical Residents during role change. For assistance transitioning to a role that is not presented below, please contact the PDMP.

• Additional information may be required during role change. For questions about DEA, NPI, or state license credentials, please contact the appropriate issuing entity.
• Manual review and approval of PMP AWARxE accounts undergoing role change may take 1-3 business days for the PDMP to complete. For questions about status, please contact the PDMP.
• Users who primarily access the PDMP through integration will need to login to their PMP AWARxE account to access Medical Resident Role Change functionality.
