Residency programs frequently rotate residents through different departments, facilities, or even different states. This article covers how those moves do — and don't — affect access to PMP AWARxE.
Rotating Within the Same State or Health System
A PMP AWARxE account and Medical Resident role are not tied to a specific department or rotation schedule. In most cases, moving between departments or facilities within the same state does not require any change to a PMP AWARxE account.
Rotating to a Different State
PMP AWARxE accounts are created separately for each state's PDMP — registering in one state does not create or transfer an account in another. If your rotation moves you to a training site in a different state, you'll need to register for a new account on that state's PMP AWARxE site, selecting the role that state has configured for medical residents.
| Depending on the home state's configurations, an existing account may already show patient data from other participating states without a separate registration. |
If the Medical Residency Rotation is Extended or Delayed
An extended rotation or residency doesn't change the Medical Resident role or account status on its own — no action is generally needed. If the training institution or contact details change, update them via Updating Account Information.
Access Doesn't End Automatically When a Rotation Ends
Leaving a rotation site does not, by itself, change or end PDMP access — access is tied to the PMP AWARxE account and role status. Any access changes occur when a role changes (refer to Medical Resident Role Change) or when a PDMP administrator updates or deactivates an account.
If Access Should Have Changed and Didn't
If access needs to be updated for a new rotation—for example, if a facility requires a direct affiliation—contact the applicable PDMP administrator for assistance.
