Bamboo Health provides a series of indicators that may be automatically returned to the requesting system as discrete data. If enabled by the PDMP, the State Indicators section of the Patient Report provides additional information to aid healthcare professionals (HCPs) in their patient assessment and medical decision-making.
Common alerts and/or flags that may present in the State Indicators section may include:
- Additional Risk Indicators
- Patient Alerts
- Below Threshold Indicators
- Custom State Indicators
Pharmacists and physicians use State Indicators to further review details in the patient's prescription history as they attend to the patients. State Indicators are intended to aid, not replace, medical decision-making. None of the information presented should be used as sole justification for providing or not providing medications. |
Additional Indicators
If enabled by the PDMP, Additional Indicators (also referred to as "Red Flag Indicators") present on the Patient Report to identify when a patient has met or exceeded an additional risk indicator.
There are three Additional Indicators:
- Indicator for more than 5 controlled substance providers in any 365-day period in the last 2 years.
- Indicator for more than 4 pharmacies that dispense controlled substances in any 90-day period in the last 2 years.
- Indicator for more than 40 morphine equivalent dose (MED) average and more than 100 morphine milligram equivalent (MME) total at any time in the previous 2 years.
Patient Alerts
If enabled by the PDMP, Patient Alerts (also referred to as Clinical Alerts) provide notifications and/or present on the Patient Report to indicate that a patient has met or exceeded a threshold determined by the PDMP. There are 6 different types of Patient Alerts the PDMP may have enabled for their providers.
For additional information on Patient Alerts, please refer to the Patient Alerts help article.
Below Threshold Indicators
If enabled by the PDMP, Below Threshold Indicators are presented on the Patient Report to indicate when a patient is below a Patient Alerts threshold as determined by the PDMP.
Custom State Indicators
Some PDMPs may also have Custom State Indicators enabled. These custom indicators may include flags for deceased patients, opioid antidote (naloxone) administrations, marijuana registration cards, opioid treatment program, etc.
